                                            Chapter two: A Special Gift

Little Al grew up and learned to work at home together with his mother and father. At ten years of age they decided to send him to school - all the villagers ten years old kids started school at that point - to learn important things that would become useful in the future. Al was so excited and - social as he was - he wanted to become freinds with everybody. He didn't want to loose any time of the day, only to spend it in school together with his classmates.

Though, not every day in life can be successful and this day wasn't. Not for this little guy.

All the kids sat down in front of their desks, awaiting the teacher - some ol' and smelly man with grey hair and white beard - they said. Whispering and giggling girls in one corner and the arguing and naughty boys in the other side of the classroom.

Al in the other hand just sat in the middle of the room quietly and looking around for the remaining details in the classroom.

Suddenly a pretty tall old man came into the class together with a younger lady and greeted:

- Good morning students! I'm Mr Tougah and I'm the principal of this school and this is your teacher Ms Ladygoo. We welcome you here to this magnificent place of knowledge and wisdom and you will together with the rest of our personell discover greatful things during these five years in school. First we would like to check so that everybody's here, Ms Ladygoo if you please?

The principal turned to the young woman and she began to read the names on the list that she had been given earlier.

- Lady Winette?
- Here, answered a little girl with long blond hair and freckles on the checks.
- Good. Mr Hough?
- Here, said a red-haired boy with large lightbrown pants and a puffy shirt.

And so it continued in two minutes before it was Al's turn...

- Al Zalam?
- I'm here, he said out quite loud and, unlike the other kids, rose up from the seat of happiness.
- Good. You may sit down now.

And so he did. Though there were however a few of the boys who reacted on that. They thought he was weird - "why raise up from the chair while you just' need to raise your hand?" - who was this guy? Some sort of a schmuck?

Later on that day when the kids were having a lunch break five of the boys in the class decided to take Al to a place - they knew that Al was a very social and extremely curious person - and wanted him to do something. They didn't tell of where or what they'd show - they left it as a suprice for him. And that would be the bait to lure him in to their "supricement".

- 'eh, Al, said the leader of the boys, We've found a very nice-looking place not far from the school and we wondered if you want to go with us?
- How far is it?
- Not far from here I said.
- Sure why not?

They lead him in to the Climber forest, unseen by the janitor, over a lake and past the light groves around the schoolyard, till they finaly reached a large and really dark shack (in the size of 2.5 * 2.5 meters) covered with plants and mosses.

Then the leader boy said:

- There it is!
- What's inside it, asked Al curiously.
- Go in there n' check it out - it's no dangerous it's jus' an ol' shack!
- Uhm, okay.
- Jerk ... they whispered.

Al went through the half rotten door, that stood on edge and in to the deserted house. He was chocked over what he saw: Enormous scissors and knives that hung on the walls and a bunch of ropes that lay wrapped up in a corner. And a desk that stood right in the back of the shed with its drawers hanging out of its openings and a broken window above it.

- Wow, he said with the jaw wide open as he slowly walked further inside.

Then he started to remeber something the teacher mentioned to the class, before they headed out for break...

Pov

- Now we've had our first lesson, but before you go out to have lunch I need to clear up a few things for you:
Rule no,1: Don't ever cross the border of the school yard or enter the forest - the enemies are hiding and lures for every child they can get!
Rule no,2: When the bells ringing then you're about to head back to the lessons, understood?

- Yes Ma'm, all the kids shouted.

End of pov

SMACK!

The door was closed and kept him locked up. Al turned around and looked around for the other guys, but couldn't see any of them. He started to call their names, but none answered. Panic, he tried to find another way out - then it hit him - the broken window! There was no questions about it, he wanted to get out!

When he almost had reached the top of the desk he heard some familiar voices from outside. It was the boys! Al tried to climb higher up to reach the top, but didn't watch his step closely. He sliped on the slimey thing on the wooden drawer and fell down in another one with dirty sheets in it with a thud. Just as he was about to climb it again he heard another sound that came from underneath the desk. He turned his head and saw a couple of green eyes that glowed in the dark.

Frightened he screamed for help, but the lads didn't seem to respond. Then a giant cat appeared from the dusk and licked its mouth of delight. Al shouted again and louder this time, but at the same time he felt an like kind of an astmathic attack that almost made him choke. He crouched down from the lack of air and met the gaze of the cat's evil eyes.

Just as if all hope had blown away within a few seconds, he lifted up the right arm protectivly and  opened up the hand and, unexpectedly an invisible forcefield grew and formed into a shield. And when the cat attacked, both its whiskers and some of the fur of the nose burned away!

Chocked the cat ran off through the window and created a larger hole through the glass.

Exhausted Al fell down on the back and everything went black.
